Facebook - it is what it is.
I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings...
But...
Facebook isn't actually FREE.
There's another recent push by FB users, trying to deny Facebook and other entities the right to use their personal information.
Well, this is kind of silly...
See, when I signed up with Facebook, I was making an agreement...The same agreement everyone makes when, you know, I voluntarily told Facebook my full name, address, e-mail address, etc.
The Agreement:
I get to enjoy the benefits of the social media experience and they get to use my information and things that I do on Facebook for their financial benefit (I.E. - marketing to companies with money who make it possible for me to enjoy Facebook without having to pay cash money).
What I allow Facebook to do with my information can be only partially limited by adjusting my privacy settings. I have restricted them as much as is allowed, but I understand that my basic user information is out there. It can and will be used. I AM being used by Facebook. I have agreed to be.
I agree to be used in this manner whenever I register/join most any 'Free' website. There's a reason why I don't play games on FB and use any Apps on it. I try to limit giving my information to sites I really like.
We all have the choice. No one is twisting my arm. If I don't like the admission price, I can take my information and walk away.
The following links expand on what I'm saying, and describe the ways that we on Facebook have agreed to be used.
New York Times - Likes Become Ads
Social Fixer - Be Careful what you "Like"
For Firefox users - If you want to stop seeing Ads on your Facebook page, you can install this plug in:
Adblock Plus
So now ya know...Be careful out there - and realize that nothing on the internet is truly free.
